THE GODMOTHER DESIGNS BEGAN...
...probably around 2004 when I first began to create professional work, though I have been creative and artistic throughout my life. So back to 2004... I was teaching at the time and began doing a few pieces of work on request of the school, friends and family. This spurred me on to accept a marketing role for a local business.
I left teaching and was now in a role as a marketing & events assistant. Eagar to learn as much as I could, I then moved into a graphic design role. I was very lucky and had employers who believed in me, who were able to give me a chance at creativity within the marketing team, despite all of my skills being self taught. I was a professional graphic designer and it was no longer something I saw as a hobby. During my stint at this company, I also covered roles of PR Manager, Event Manager and Marketing Manager during recruitment processes. This company taught me a lot about all areas of marketing plus provided me an excellent work ethic which I still follow today.
FINDING THE BALANCE IN LIFE...
In 2012 I began a Marketing Executive role at a different company, with less hours, and I was able to allocate more time to building my own brand. The Godmother Designs began in mid-2014, when I moved house and could dedicate a whole room to my office and work, thus removing the blurred lines between work and life. The Godmother Designs became a full-time enterprise for me in February 2017 (something I had been contemplating for a long time, but scared to make the jump!). It was an exciting new challenge working on my own and setting my own targets. However, working on my own was quite lonely and demotivating at times. This prompted me to find a waitressing job a few days a week, which I love. And it definitely breaks my week up!
My online store began on Etsy but is now duplicated on this website. Every week I am designing a new piece and my items have found homes all over the world, whether bought by people for themselves or as gifs for others.
I have a small but steady low-maintenance client base which keeps the balance between my online sales and private work.
WHY THE GODMOTHER DESIGNS?
I like to play with words. It depends how you read and subsequently interpret it. And I am a Godmother, officially.
